Welcome to Villa Sascha
To praise Villa Sascha for being comfortable and practical is to risk taking a virtue and turning it into something that’s just a little, well, mundane. Because make no mistake, nothing about it is mundane.
This is a luxury villa that cuts a very impressive figure. The approach to the front door sets the tone. A carpet of terracotta tiles, attractively laid in a herringbone pattern, leads up to a grand porch flanked on one side by a striking turret staircase and held in by a pair of classical columns.
From there a villa extends out which, handsome in a low-slung, unostentatious sort of way, has something of the look of an LA mansion about it.
You enter through an ornately carved wooden door into a series of spacious, light-filled spaces with a pleasingly retro feel running throughout. The sitting room is all cream leather sofas and armchairs, minimalist acrylic coffee tables and striking concentric pendant lights.
Upstairs on the landing, along with swirling stained glass internal windows, there are references to Arne Jacobsen in the pair of wing-backed, Egg-style club chairs that sit outside the main bedrooms.
But the appeal of Villa Sascha lies in the balance it strikes. It’s got enough in the looks department to please the aesthetically-inclined, but not so much that it would keep families with small children permanently on edge over the course of a holiday.
Location-wise it scores highly, too. Just off a quiet street in an upmarket gated community, it’s that perfect mix of easy to find and quick to disembark. Meaning that you can be unpacked, in the pool and making holiday memories in no time at all.
Comfort and convenience. There are certainly worse things to build a holiday around.
A perfect marriage of style & substance
You’re greeted on arrival at Villa Sascha by a classical entrance of grand, columned proportions that beckons you in through an imposing, carved wooden door. Inside, a staircase lined with intricate wrought-iron balustrade curves pleasingly upwards to the first floor.
Quality has been insisted upon from top to bottom. The décor in the living-dining space has a pronouncedly 60s/retro feel with a cream leather family sofa, statement chair and vintage tan-coloured small sofa facing a large 75in TV on top of gleaming white marble floors.
With split-level sleeping arrangements, Villa Sascha is perfectly suited to a multi-generational holiday or two families. The five bedrooms are spread out over three floors: the ground floor, a top-floor master suite which occupies a whole floor of its own, and the lower ground floor. With two rooms sharing a bathroom, the latter is ideal for older children to be sectioned off in together and have their own space.
Back downstairs, the kitchen is decorated in a neutral style. It’s been put together with everything a family would need in terms of fixtures, fittings and facilities – right down to the curved edges of the granite work surfaces that have been designed with small heads firmly in mind.
Bringing the outside in for a perfect summer stay
Like almost all the best luxury villas in this sun-soaked part of southern Spain, Villa Sascha’s layout does its utmost to blur the boundaries between inside and out.
Light-filled open plan spaces spill out onto an enormous terrace that wraps around the back of the house. Very much the heart of the house, it’s made up of a couple of interconnecting areas: a covered dining area with a retractable sunshade, and a relaxing chill-out area with a coffee table. Whether it’s enjoying late-night dinner and drinks under the stars as a group, or watching the kids splash around in the pool all afternoon, it’s almost invariably where you’ll be spending most of your time.
Below the terrace, the pool is an inviting Roman-style affair with steps down into it to help little legs find their way into the water. It’s lined with loungers and surrounded by a lawn area and gardens. These are decent-sized without being overwhelmingly large – so runaway small children are always in sight, and just as importantly, within easy dashing distance.
An outdoor shower is on hand, too, where you can cool off after a spot of sunbathing, while a shady garage area is ideal for ball games on those swelteringly hot summer afternoons.

Living

There’s also a second lounge on the lower-ground floor. With its large family size sofa facing another 75in TV and plenty of space in which to play, it’s adored by younger members of the family.
Air-conditioning is on hand to keep you cool in summer, while there’s underfloor heating to take the chill off winter evenings.
Eating
The living space leads off to the dining room with a round table and retro-style leather chairs, seating 6. It opens out onto a large dining terrace which sits above the garden.
In addition to the main dining area, there’s a small seating area in the kitchen with a 1960s-style round table and comfortable leather chairs, perfect for cracking out your iPad and flicking through the morning news over a coffee.
Also outside, the poolside terrace can be laid for dinner, and has a large round dining table with 8-10 seats
Relaxing
The pool is a handsome 8×5 Roman-style affair surrounded by a flat lawned garden, palms and banana trees. The garden and lawn areas are perfectly pleasant without being so well manicured that parents need to worry about the incessant patter of tiny feet causing any sort of lasting damage.
Immediately surrounding the house are two very large terraces. One offers a set of good quality sun loungers. Immediately next to the living room is a modern garden sofa set. In keeping with the convenience-first, family-friendly vibe that runs throughout, both are set just high enough above the garden to give a good view to parents of their playing offspring.

Why we love it

This is a very comfortable villa that’s perfectly set up for a family of 8-10. It’s been specifically created as a holiday haven for young families: the pool is contained within a secure, walled garden within easy sight of the terraces; a great games room with bedrooms next to it creates a complete – and cool and shady – kids’ lair in the lower ground floor.

Located on the Los Flamingos development, the villa is virtually a well-struck drive from some of the Costa del Sol’s best golfing. You can roll out of bed and straight onto the first tee at any one of three top courses, Los Flamingos, Alferini and Tramores, for that early morning round.
