Welcome to El Mirador Lodge

The spirit of AndaluCia, with a LUXURIOUS bohemian vibe

Combine traditional Andalucian charm with contemporary upgrades, custom interiors and bespoke luxury, and you have El Mirador Lodge.

If your heart cries out for Andalucia, for whitewashed walls and stone floors and beamed ceilings and sun-dappled gardens, then El Mirador Lodge responds with a heartfelt, ‘bienvenido!’ Convenient to Malaga, Spain’s newest city hotspot, and just 30 minutes to the warm Mediterranean Sea, the lodge is a celebration of culture, of architecture, of hospitality, of luxury.

You’ll feel it as you motor up to the lodge, which opens onto a spacious courtyard and endless views, panoramas that tumble down mountainside, rolling through olive groves, vine covered hills and almond trees, before spilling into the Mediterranean.

Three mountain ranges surround the 100 square metre house, where only the beautiful outdoors, private pool which can be heated*, and multiple courtyards, could upstage the renovated, all-custom and decidedly contemporary interior.

El Mirador Lodge, set on 10 scenic acres, redefines your idea of bespoke luxury. It is our pleasure to offer the intimacy and seclusion of a private villa, paired with the fine offerings you’d expect from a five-star hotel: daily housekeeping, breakfast service and local concierge support among them. Add in a spectacular countryside setting (miles from the nearest interruption), and you have the perfect combination of luxury, privacy and escapism.

Please note that El Mirador Lodge shares a 10-acre estate with its sister property, Cortijo El Mirador, which can accommodate an additional eight guests. The two homes are close enough to combine for group use, but are each complete independent, private and separated by gardens.

Traditional AndaluCia goes luxury bohemian chic

From your first glance inside El Mirador Lodge, it’s obvious that you’re in Andalucia. And it’s not just the welcoming strings of flamenco guitar, which serenade from the sound system, but also the instantly recognisable cortijo architecture, with its whitewashed walls, beamed ceilings and cosy built-ins. And, of course, the quintessential Andalucian views that peek through veils of bougainvillea in bloom, framing vistas of lush mountains and the distant Mediterranean.

Stylish and bohemian, El Mirador Lodge offers 100 square metres of open living: three double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, plus an additional guest bathroom. Light streams through the windows, throwing sun and shadow onto antique wood detailing, stone floors, an inviting fireplace and soft textiles. Look beyond the surface and modernity peeks through: a gourmet kitchen with sleek countertops and stainless appliances; marble bathrooms with contemporary fixtures; high-tech entertainment including a video game system; and Art Deco furniture and furnishings, like the elegant cocktail bar.

Three luxurious bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, sleep up to six. The principal bedroom, which functions as a picture-perfect bridal or anniversary suite, invites you to settle in a never leave: in addition to a plush bedroom and master bath with shower room and soaking tub, you’ll also enjoy a private sitting room, terrace, and garden. If you can pull yourself away, spread out with friends and family in the cosy living space and breezy dining room with seating for eight.

For gourmands, the heart of El Mirador Lodge is the spacious kitchen. A large refrigerator and gourmet oven are part of the appeal, but the real draw is Andalucia and the lodge itself; a bouquet of local ingredients to flavour your meals. Accompany your private chef* to pick herbs from the garden, or sample virgin olive oil from the estate, or taste wine from the Axarquia, or add a few drops of honey harvested from local bees. At El Mirador Lodge, you’re always in for a treat.

Outdoor pool and flower-filled courtyards, all with sea views

Lounge in a refreshing pool or cosy covered daybed, and drink in memorable vistas that end only where the Mediterranean meets the horizon.

High on a hilltop, higher even than its sister property of Cortijo el Mirador, sits El Mirador Lodge. From its enviable location, the lodge looks down onto panoramic views of rolling hills, olive and almond groves, vineyards in bloom and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. The sights, sounds and aromas of these sweeping vistas and epicurean wonders are a fitting welcome to El Mirador Lodge, where gourmet meets luxury meets classic Andalucia.

Vibrant bougainvillea blooms are the crown jewel of the lodge’s mature garden. The flowers’ purple hues provide the perfect contrast to a backdrop of whitewashed cortijo walls, green-speckled mountains, and the endless sapphire of the sky and sea.

The lodge’s impressive main courtyard serves as welcome sentry, providing you with your first taste of the luxuries within and around. A spacious outdoor kitchen makes way for a large double fireplace and pizza/bread oven, which cosies up to the outdoor dining terrace and barbecue.

The private tucked-away pool can be heated in cooler months, and from there you can head up or down to explore the lodge’s courtyards and terraces. A sure favourite is the lower courtyard, which functions as an outdoor living room with soft daybed and built-in sofas. Or, walk up from the pool and discover the outdoor lounge, with its spectacular views and next-door meditation garden.

Of course, your time at El Mirador Lodge is not restricted to the lodge itself. While away the hours exploring the 10-acre grounds, which the lodge shares with sister rental Cortijo el Mirador. Or, venture further afield; a walk down the country lane will do it, to discover Andalucia’s iconic aloes, agaves and herb gardens.

Enjoy the local area

A sublime setting among eagles and olive groves.

El Mirador Lodge is located inland above Lake Vinuela, close to the charming white villages of Canillas de Aceituno and Alcaucin in one of Andalucia’s most unexplored yet accessible areas. This eastern part of Malaga province is known as the Axarquia and offers some breathtakingly spectacular landscapes whether it be turquoise sea and coastal coves or mountains reached by stunning, snaking mountain roads. This is real Spain.

With a tropical climate perfect for producing Moscatel wines, this region of Malaga province is bordered by the sea to the south, and two mountain ranges – the Sierra de Aljama to the north and east, and the Montes de Malaga to the west. You can easily explore neighbouring towns of Velez-Malaga, known as the capital of this region, with its restored castle, then on to Colmenar and Comares; Torrox, to reach Competa; and Nerja, for Frigiliana, one of the prettiest of the Spanish ‘Pueblos Blancos.’

For more of a city vibe, a easy day trip is Malaga and explore the stylish old town, bustling tapas bars and many museums and galleries, before sipping cocktails in one of the cities roof-top hangouts overlooking the magnificent ancient Alcazaba Palace.

A stay at Casa Miravista is also gourmet heaven, with a local climate rich for Andalucian produce from tropical fruit and avocados, to olive oil and wine. The Axarquia offers a wide choice of local restaurants to keep the most avid foodies thoroughly satisfied! Check out some of our foodie suggestions in Spain in Style.

Other local amenities include:

  • Nearest Airport: Malaga Airport 59 minutes (69.7km), Granada airport 1h23 (78.5km)
  • Nearest Beach: Torre del Mar (27.2km), Nerja (47.8km)
  • Supermarkets: Small local shops are located in the nearby villages of Alcaucín (3.7km) and Canillas de Aceituno (7.3km) but hosts will arrange pre-arrival shopping. Large supermarkets are 24km away in Velez-Malaga.
  • Restaurants: La Sociedad and El Bodegon De Juan Maria in Canillas de Aceituno (7.3km) are recommended by the villa owners (and us) and are famous for their traditional Spanish cooking.
  • Golf: Baviera Golf (37 minute drive) Añoreta Golf (Benajarafe, 40 minute drive)

Outdoor Activities:

Fans of outdoor pursuits will be spoilt for choice during their stay. The property is located on the doorstep of some of the best hiking trails in Malaga such as El Saltillo joining the villages of Canillas de Aceituno and Sedella. And for the more adventurous a seven-hour hike which will take you to the summit of the province’s highest mountain range – La Maroma at 2069m.

If you’d prefer to get your blood pumping on a bike ride, there are also some fabulous mountain biking tracks and road cycling in the countryside – and the property’s’ dedicated concierge team would be more than happy to arrange a guided tour of the best with a local expert.

Heading down to the coast we recommend the coastline of Nerja/Maro, hire a boat, kayak or paddle board and go exploring. Waterfalls, coves, abundant sea life and private beaches await you at this spectacular stretch of coast.
