Those wishing to slow down the pace and get away from it all need look no further than Casa Miralago.

Tucked away down a peaceful country lane in the heart of the Andalucian countryside, all that can be heard from the sprawling garden of this beautiful property is birdsong and the drone of honey bees.

The house’s interior effortlessly combines natural Spanish charm with understated contemporary touches. The five double bedrooms are tastefully decorated with crisp white sheets, colourful throw cushions and quirky bespoke art-work, and each come complete with their own private bathroom.

Perfect for a getaway at any time of year, Casa Miralago is cool in the summer thanks to air conditioning in every room, and warm and cozy in the winter months with a large living-room fireplace to gather the family round.

For bigger get-togethers, Casa Miralago is located alongside El Mirador, a 10 acre estate which can accommodate an additional 14 guests. Next door to Casa Miralago is its sister property, Casa Miravista, which can comfortably sleep eight. The two properties are close enough to combine for group use – along with the main estate – but far enough apart to ensure privacy is guaranteed.

 

Falling away behind double doors set in curving white walls, the vivid green lawns of Casa Miralago are scattered with hammocks, day-beds and sunken benches interspersed with stone planters of wild herbs and cacti.

The 360 degree view dazzles with a azure lakes, purple shadowed mountains and vine-carpeted hillsides beneath an endless sky.

Stone steps lead down from the bottom of the garden – passing through olive, lemon and orange trees and brightly flowering bushes of bougainvillea – and culminate in a ledge carved high above the countryside, complete with a table table, a wood burner and a day bed.

The living room at Casa Miralago is a comfortable and cosy spot to congregate on a winter’s evening around a roaring log-fire.

Featuring a smart TV, well-stocked bookshelves and a roomy sofa, the lounge enjoys views over the expansive gardens with the shapes of mountains huddled in the background.

As lovely as the interior of Casa Miralago is, summer guests at the villa are bound to spend most of their time outside taking advantage of the warm Andalucian sunshine in the property’s stunning exterior spaces.

Sun-beds, hammocks and cushion-piled benches offer numerous vantage points from which to enjoy the panoramic views, which feature lakes, far-reaching skies and a glittering slice of Mediterranean sea.

Casa Miralago’s compact yet well stocked kitchen contains modern amenities, such as a Nespresso coffee-maker, oven and a three-ring electric hob.

For al-fresco cooking, the large terrace leading off the living room features a stone pizza oven and BBQ.

Meals can be eaten in the lounge at the bespoke wooden dining table, or in the communal area outside with its shaded terrace and 8-seater table.

Casa Miralago’s gardens are ranged with comfy day beds, sunken sofas and low-slung hammocks, providing plenty of spots to recline in the sunshine.

For those desirous of privacy, the chill-out zone located in the lower garden is the ideal space to slink-off to and enjoy some solitude while admiring the views of the lake and mountains.

Alternatively, crack open a chilled beer from the chest-freezer and enjoy a spot of table-tennis at the stone ping-pong table overlooking the valley below.

Guests can also choose to unwind in the 4x10m private pool with its sparkling azure waters.

Daily Housekeeping Included

This villa operates as a personal boutique hotel. Your rental includes a daily visit from the housekeeper to include lay-out and clearing away after breakfast, plus a linen and towel change twice a week. Additional housekeeping hours can be booked and paid for directly to cover things like after-meal clearing up, nightly turn-down, or personal laundry.

Breakfast Included

Your breakfast is included in the price of the rental and will be prepared and laid out each morning, with assistance from your housekeeper to serve and clear away. Breakfast will be continental-style, based on local seasonal produce, with new items introduced by your housekeeper through the week.

Your villa concierge and chef offer a range of local trips, excursions and visits to get the most out of your stay. Ideas include visiting the local vineyards and olive farm, hiking in the mountains, or a Spanish food experience with a visit to a local fresh food market with your chef.

Casa Miralago offers private bespoke tours to the cities of Andalucia for up to eight passengers in air-conditioned Mercedes vehicles, and would highly recommend Granada and the Alhambra, or the Malaga Art and tapas tour.

  • For a cocktail and canapes reception there is capacity for 65 at Casa Miralago, with room for 100 guests for a seated formal dinner.
  • Exterior music permitted until midnight.
  • Wedding fee payable in addition to the cost of rental (minimum 7 nights in July and August, 3 nights during other months).
  • Wedding fee includes: rights to use the property for a celebration, extra energy and systems usage, additional housekeeping, pool maintenance and wear and tear due to high usage.

Casa Miralago is located above Lake Viñuela, close to the white village of Canillas de Aceituno in one of Andalucia’s most unexplored yet accessible areas – La Axarquia. An easy drive from the coast this part of Malaga province, is a picturesque region of rolling hills lined with vineyards, a stunning bright blue reservoir, low key coastline and charming white villages.

With a tropical climate perfect for producing Moscatel wines, this region of Malaga province is bordered by the sea to the south, and two mountain ranges – the Sierra de Aljama to the north and east, and the Montes de Malaga to the west. You can easily explore neighbouring towns of Velez-Malaga, known as the capital of this region, with its restored castle, then on to Colmenar and Comares; Torrox, to reach Competa; and Nerja, for Frigiliana, one of the prettiest of the Spanish ‘Pueblos Blancos.’

For more of a city vibe, a easy day trip is Malaga and explore the stylish old town, bustling tapas bars and many museums and galleries, before sipping cocktails in one of the cities roof-top hangouts overlooking the magnificent ancient Alcazaba Palace.

A stay at Casa Miravista is also gourmet heaven, with a local climate rich for Andalucian produce from tropical fruit and avocados, to olive oil and wine.   • Supermarkets: Small local shops are located in the nearby villages of Alcaucín (3.7km) and Canillas de Aceituno (7.3km) but hosts will arrange pre-arrival shopping. Large supermarkets are 24km away in Velez-Malaga.
  • Restaurants: La Sociedad and El Bodegon De Juan Maria in Canillas de Aceituno (7.3km) are recommended by the villa owners (and us) and are famous for their traditional Spanish cooking.
  • Golf: Baviera Golf (37 minute drive) Añoreta Golf (Benajarafe, 40 minute drive)

Outdoor Activities:

Fans of outdoor pursuits will be spoilt for choice during their stay. The property is located on the doorstep of some of the best hiking trails in Malaga such as El Saltillo joining the villages of Canillas de Aceituno and Sedella. And for the more adventurous a seven-hour hike which will take you to the summit of the province’s highest mountain range – La Maroma at 2069m.

If you’d prefer to get your blood pumping on a bike ride, there are also some fabulous mountain biking tracks and road cycling in the countryside – and the property’s’ dedicated concierge team would be more than happy to arrange a guided tour of the best with a local expert.

Heading down to the coast we recommend the coastline of Nerja/Maro, hire a boat, kayak or paddle board and go exploring. Waterfalls, coves, abundant sea life and private beaches await you at this spectacular stretch of coast.
