Welcome to Villa Nido

serenity and luxury combined in a blissful mountain retreat

Welcome to Villa Nido: an oasis of tranquillity just 30-minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the coast.

This very special property is accessed via a narrow, winding track cutting through forests of cork trees, deep in the countryside near Casares.

Gates slide open to reveal Villa Nido standing at the foot of a neatly-combed gravel driveway scattered with ornamental green ponds and olive trees.

Despite its modern, cubic design this handsome property blends effortlessly with the landscape – seeming to grow out the countryside and the vast mountain range at its back.

The villa is secluded enough that you needn’t worry about neighbours, and the only noises to be heard from the garden are birdsong, the drone of bees and the whispering of the wind through the treetops – the perfect soundtrack to a relaxing getaway.

Villa Nido is home that has been thoughtfully designed down to the last detail. Its elegant, flowing lines are enhanced by a stylishly understated decor and wall-to-wall glass framing endless views.

Although minimalistic, Villa Nido’s interior remains warm and welcoming, thanks to the inclusion of statement bespoke pieces and tasteful artwork – peppering an otherwise neutral canvas with pops of colour.

Upon entering Villa Nido, you will find yourself in a large, l-shaped corridor drenched in sunlight. Floor-to-ceiling windows line the hallway, displaying panoramas of clustered green treetops and shadow-cloaked mountains.

Opening off the corridor is a large, bright dining room with three walls of windows, which feeds into a sleek, open-plan kitchen and living space with modern log-burner fire and widescreen TV.

Also to be found on the ground floor is a light-filled living room with sumptuous white sofas centring around a beautiful bespoke coffee table made from driftwood.

Villa Nido’s seven bedrooms are divided between three levels ensuring families or big groups are spared from getting under each other’s feet.

Three of the bedrooms are located on the first floor, including the spacious master suite. This airy room has a serene colour palette of whites and creams and enjoys access to a private terrace with mountain views.

This terrace also houses a free-standing bath-tub and shower, allowing you the unique experience of bathing al fresco in utter tranquillity.

Also situated on the first floor are two generous-sized twin bedrooms with private bathrooms, plus a large sun terrace at the end of the corridor with views of valley and mountains stretching as far as the eye can see.

Downstairs on the ground floor is the staff quarters, comprised of a small double bedroom and adjacent shower, with a separate WC located in the corridor next door.

The lower ground floor runs the entire length of the property and contains the remaining three bedrooms – all of which enjoy direct access to the lower garden via a set of sliding glass doors – plus a recently-recarpeted home theatre with luxurious, sofa-style seating.

Also to be found on this floor is a large home office – complete with Mac desktop PC – and large leisure space with table tennis table and a selection of gym equipment.

This is adjoined by a Hammam steam room with separate shower and WC.

With such an abundance of leisure space available, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding where and how to spend your days at Villa Nido.

The outdoor spaces at Villa Nido are nothing short of stunning – with jaw-dropping views of mountains and swathes of dense green countryside on offer from every angle.

The exterior of the house has been carefully designed to exploit its remarkable positioning in the heart of the Sierra Crestellina national park. Large sun decks with fire pits wrap the ground floor, while a sprawling terrace with BBQ and dining table leads off the kitchen.

Follow a winding path away from the house and you will find yourself passing through beautifully-maintained gardens, fringed with rockeries of silvery-leafed olive trees and thick-trunked palms.

After pausing to admire a rose garden brimming with delicately-scented white blooms, a short stroll will lead you to the stunning, solar-heated infinity pool – set on an elevated platform and angled towards the wooded slopes of the Sierra de Gaucín.

Situated beneath the pool area is the lower-garden: a long strip of lawn edged by a fragrant bed of wild lavender, which is attended by a constant cloud of honey-bees.

Wherever you are outside, the sound of birdsong is pervasive and lizards and geckos dart between the rocks in green flashes. Vultures are also omnipresent in the skies above, circling the distant black peak of the mountain.

Villa Nido enjoys spectacular sunsets year-round, so the garden is an idyllic spot to settle down at the end of the day with a glass of chilled champagne in hand and watch as the sky changes colour above you.

Villa Nido is located in the picturesque National Park of Sierra Crestellina – famous for its hiking trails, wildlife and beautiful wildflowers – 8km outside the picturesque pueblo blancos of Casares and a 30-minute drive from the beaches of Estepona.

Casares is a beautiful white village oozing authentic Andalucian charm.  Home to only 3,000 inhabitants, its sugar-cube houses are scattered across a hillside and overlooked by a Moorish castle, perched on a rocky crag above the town.

Casares offers a superb array of local restaurants – including traditional roadside ventas specialising in oven-roasted meat and hearty rice dishes – and a picturesque town centre with a leafy main square.

A 20-minute drive in the opposite direction will lead you to Gaucín – widely acknowledged as one of the most beautiful villages in Andalucia and is home to a thriving community of international artists.

Be sure to stop and snap a picture at the iconic “Balcón de Europa” – or Balcony of Europe – on your way into the town.  This elevated viewing platform offers breathtaking views of Gibraltar and North Africa and the tree-carpeted valleys of the River Genal valley from its vantage point at 626m above sea level.

A 30-minute drive from Villa Nido you will find the laid-back beach town of Estepona, with the upmarket marina of Sotogrande located a further 10 minutes down the road.

Where Marbella offers glamour and refinement, the area surrounding Estepona has become the destination of choice for visitors looking for understated luxury.

The Marina is the highlight of Sotogrande with its luxury yachts, cafes and restaurants at the water’s edge, while the Polo nearby is a summer event that brings in the world’s elite year after year to enjoy the action.

Dining out can take place in the restaurants of the marina, or in the village centres of Pueblo Nuevo and Guadiaro. Or you might head to one of the chiringuitos along the beaches at either side of Sotogrande for a taste of fresh fish and a cool glass of Tinto del Verano.

If you're in the mood for more luxury, Villa Nido is also located an 11-minute drive from the 5* resort of Fina Cortesín - which offers a world-class golf course and spa, plus a range of excellent in-house restaurants, including the famous Kabuki Raw.
