Welcome to Villa Andreas

Hidden from the outside world, an intriguing entrance leads you into another world past lush topiary, elegant fountains and tropical blooms.

Villa Andreas is what you see when you close your eyes and summon up a mental image of an ultra-luxurious film star’s beach villa. There’s a (multi-)million dollar, front row location – that’s at once prominent and private – and an exhaustive list of luxurious facilities.

It’s also got a grand, classical feel: in the triangular pediment of the summer house, the Grecian urns of the balustrades, the curving staircases, the columns in the gym, and in the generally slightly decadent air that runs throughout the place. It’s not one for lovers of minimal design, perhaps, but it is undeniably impressive.

Entering is like walking into a small Italian palace with its own secret entrance. Inside, sweeping stairs take you through never-ending interiors including 9 luxurious and spacious en-suite bedrooms plus a staff apartment, two kitchens (one professional for large events), several sitting rooms, a sunny glass orangery, a full home spa with gym and indoor pool and a Hollywood-style cinema.

Interiors include some beautiful antiques and valuable original paintings, are heavy on the rich fabrics and studded with unique finishing touches.

And, as you might expect, it’s welcomed more than its fair share of the great and the good over the years, from presidents and members of the British royal family to sheikhs and superstars.

Amongst all this extravagance, though, the true star of the show is really quite a simple one: the sea. ‘Front row’ doesn’t begin to describe the setting – the sea simply starts where the garden stops. Framed by a row of mature palms swaying listlessly in the sea breeze, it’s a view that’s fit for a king.

A house whose interiors are as regal as its guests

The tone at Villa Andreas is set right from the start. The main entrance has something of the feel of a small renaissance palace about it: a staircase leads up to an enormous church door, and from there into a grand hall with cathedral-esque ceilings and oversized floral displays.

A side entrance is slightly less showy, but just as intriguing. With a door leading to a stone staircase down into a central hallway adorned with medieval tapestries and antique chairs, it’s all rather like arriving in your own private castle.

From there the house spreads out, seemingly endlessly, over two floors. It pulls off a notoriously difficult trick, too: being at once huge and grand – it’s filled with French and Spanish antiques – and homely.

The bedrooms read like a checklist of luxury details: there are French velvet sofas, gilded antiques and plush toiles in the curtains and soft furnishings; swirling Persian carpets sit on top of gleaming marble floors in white, yellow and red.

While they may be traditional in style, they’re not dusty museum pieces – they’re modern, practical and comfortable, having been designed so that their occupants can have as much of their own space as possible, as well as being able to enjoy the location to the full with private terraces opening out onto views of the sea. And they’re teched up to the hilt, too, with retractable ceiling TVs, air conditioning and underfloor heating throughout.

A sprawling pleasure dome – a Spanish Xanadu by the sea

If Villa Andreas is impressive inside, then outside it’s something else altogether. With a front row beachside location without any immediate neighbours, it’s got one of the most prestigious settings of any luxury villa on the Costa del Sol.

Day-to-day life here revolves, more than a little lazily, around the countless special outdoor spaces: alongside an utterly magnificent lagoon-style pool there’s a shady seating area here, a row of loungers there, a tennis court or a private outdoor Jacuzzi elsewhere.

A palm-fronded tiki-style garden room with rattan seats looks out to sea, a delightful poolside pavilion takes pride of place with twin velvet sofas and a fireplace for cosy evenings by the sea, while there are two exquisite gardens with fountains that wouldn’t look out of place in Versailles. All of which is within touching distance of the glittering waters of the Mediterranean.

And all these special spaces lead to plenty of special moments: sauntering down to the sea via a private gate for a pre-breakfast swim; starting the evening with cocktails in the perfectly pretty orangery; padding barefoot across the dewy lawns in the cool of the evening; watching the last light of the day sparkling on the sea. These are the things of which lifelong holiday memories are made.

This impressive home comes with 3 living rooms to use as the mood takes you; the main formal living room on the ground floor offers family-sized seating with a large-screen TV.

Then upstairs there is a wonderfully inviting ‘snug’ with squashy sofas and a roaring open fire, adjacent to a more elegant lounge with its own cocktail bar opening out to the Orangery; perfect for a pre-dinner aperitif.

Outside, there are several seating areas to choose from as the mood (and shade) take you, and a poolside cocktail bar/breakfast serving station complete with smoothie maker or cocktails.

Meals can be taken in various locations around the property; in winter, you’re most likely to want to eat in the sun-soaked orangery, while in summer, by the pool is probably the best bet. Both areas can seat up to 20 people.

Inside there’s also a farmhouse-style breakfast table in the kitchen for staff or children, or breakfast can be taken out on the terrace by the pool.

Inside the house there are myriad options for entertainment; enjoy a game of pool and a workout in the leisure zone; there’s a gym/games room with a decent selection of exercise equipment, a sunken Jacuzzi, a pool table and massage chair. The entire space can be converted into a disco.

There’s also a sauna and steam room, plus a hair and beauty salon, while outside, the private tennis court is yours to enjoy.

If passive-entertainment is more your thing, enjoy a movie-night in the sound-proofed cinema, or relax outdoors where there are plenty of sun beds to accommodate all guests in the house as well as several day beds.

The shady pergola by the pool is an ideal spot for chatting, or for a peaceful afternoon, while the interior orangery opens out onto a terrace overlooking the sea. The house is surrounded by beautifully manicured, formal gardens with tinkling fountains and lots of quiet corners in which to hole up for a while and disconnect from it all.

The heated lagoon-shaped pool is on a lower level of the garden but is still close to the house.

It’s a great option for shoulder season or winter stays, too: the pools are heated and there’s underfloor heating throughout, while it’s easy to imagine snuggling up in front of a large roaring fire as a rainstorm rolls in from the sea.

Marbella Beach on Costa del Sol

Enjoy the local area

Villa Andreas is located directly on a private beach in a hidden cove in Mijas Costa, close to the buzz, shops and restaurants of Fuengirola, and an easy drive to Marbella and several excellent foodie hot spots along this strip of the coast.

There’s a footbridge 200m away that takes you to a couple of easy family-friendly restaurants, but for a more upmarket vibe you can head to Olivia’s at La Cala just 4 minutes away, or the pretty harbour of Cabo Pino 10 minutes away, as well as Puerto Banus around 25 minutes away.

Just a short drive in the other direction you have the Miramar shopping mall with some great designer boutiques and cinemas showing a weekly English-language movie to while away a Sunday afternoon. Ask us also about beach club recommendations along the coast.

There are several more options just minutes away in the hubs of El Rosario, Elviria and Las Chapas, and along the beach there’s a mixture of family run ‘chiringuitos’ serving up the fresh catch of the day.

Mijas Costa is a perfect spot in the mid point of the Costa del Sol, so from here you can easily visit typical white villages like Mijas and Benahavis, smaller harbours like Cabo Pino and the original fishing village of La Cala for a really Spanish vibe and some seriously upmarket new restaurants worth checking out.

For those who choose to explore the area you’ll find plenty of Spanish charm, culture and character. The resort is renowned for its sunny climate that puts the ‘Sol’ in Costa del Sol, and here we have mile upon mile of beaches, white villages, bustling shops and breathtaking scenery, making it an ideal holiday destination for both families and groups of friends.

Our expert tour guides can also collect you for a door-to-door escorted tour of the cities of Seville, Granada, Cordoba, Malaga or a tailor-made gourmet tapas tour of old town Marbella – a perfect way to get to know the hidden side to this gorgeous town.
