Casa Alegre blends the best of old and new Andalucia in elegant detail, combining hand-painted tiles with soft linens, and valuable antiques with contemporary pieces.
Distinctly charming and delightfully Andalucian, Casa Alegre blends Moorish influences with colourful Costa del Sol flavour; a blend of white-washed walls and beamed ceilings, of hand-painted antique tiles and handwoven tapestries, of warm terracotta tiling and vine-covered pergolas drenched in the southern Spanish sun.
Furnished in European antiques (many from Spain) and radiating Al-Andalus roots, Casa Alegre brings history to life with every detail. A well-loved Andalucian carved mirror welcomes you to the home. Handwoven textiles and decorative ceramics are on display in the bedrooms. Old, knobbly tables are reclaimed and given new life. Paintings of rural Spanish life bedeck the walls. Hand-painted, antique tiles breathe centuries of memory into the home, adorning the living room’s fireplace and kitchen displays.
And yet, Casa Alegre is also unmistakably modern. Huge windows beckon the sun to stream in, illuminating the villa in rich, natural light. Open-plan living flows through the home, smoothly transitioning from living room to dining room to outdoor living. Treasures from the owners’ travels, woven fabrics from the Balearic Islands, and wall-hanging ceramics from around Spain decorate the walls.

Set on a hillside estate of 600 rolling hectares, Casa Alegre was designed for outdoor entertainment, with levelled terraces, a roof deck, manicured gardens and lawn, and the showstopper – a sparkling, turquoise-hued heated pool.
Few settings are more magical than a babbling river, but Casa Alegre adds manicured lawns and mountainous majesty to its riverside location. It’s so peaceful, you feel like you’re alone with just the river and blackbirds for company. In the distance, the whitewashed village of Benahavis, and further, the bright lights of Marbella and Puerto Banus, remind you that culture and fine dining are just a short drive away.
This is the tone that the villa sets in all things: understated, beautiful and rural, and always a step above your expectations.
Casa Alegre’s grounds are the picture of rural Andalucia: lush stretches of lawn, criss-crossing mountain springs, twisted vines covering shady pergolas, country gardens in bloom, and indigenous Iberian woodland teeming with wildlife as far as the eye can see. And yet, this tasteful villa is more than its views.
A peaceful retreat of jade-green shuttered windows, whitewashed walls, and expansive terraces, Casa Alegre is tailor-made for outdoor entertainment. Barbecue up a meal to enjoy in the outdoor dining room. Break out the cricket or croquet equipment, and play a game on the lawn. Lounge in the outdoor living room, stretching out on the plush sofa under a cane ceiling. Take to the roof terrace, to sunbathe or just to enjoy the surroundings.
Of course, the undeniable showpiece outdoors is the sparkling aquamarine of the heated pool: 12 metres (40 feet) long, surrounded by sun-loungers, palms, eucalyptus, colourful blooms and lush lawns, it beckons you to take a refreshing dip on a sultry afternoon.

A TASTE OF SPAIN
A complete villa pre-stocking service is also free of charge at this property, and it would be our pleasure to recommend a selection of Spanish wines for you to enjoy during your stay (food and wine cost settled locally). The house staff will then take care of your initial grocery shopping before you arrive so you can get straight on with the job of relaxing.
Your housekeeper will be on hand during your stay. She will be along to prepare your breakfast and one other meal each day, with the cost of food settled locally.
We can also offer a more formal Villa Chef service for special occasions, so if you would like to know more about our gourmet menu, tasting menus, BBQs, poolside paellas or wine-pairing with your meal then please ask us for rates.

Living
Located on the ground floor and open to the dining room, the focal point of the main living area is the oversized, white fluffy sofas and armchairs that surround a winter-ready open fireplace, framed in antique hand-painted tiles. Colourful details include Andaluz-blue lamps, powder-blue woven fabrics from the Balearic Islands, and reclaimed tables painted in contrasting colours.
A second al-fresco living space can be enjoyed on the roof terrace; an open-air lounge perfect for relaxation, an afternoon read, or a sundowner. You can also stretch out on blue-and-white cushions under the vines, and overlooking the pool.
Eating
The cortijo-style indoor dining room seats 10 at a large table with rustic, antique sisal chairs. The open-plan dining room leads into the main living room, and then onto the front terrace and lawn. There’s additional seating for 5 in the cottage kitchen, perfect for children’s mealtimes with nanny, while adults entertain in the main dining area.
Outside, shaded by a pergola, there’s al fresco dining for 10. A gas barbecue is also available.
The kitchen is rustic cottage-chic, but fully equipped with a 6-ring induction hob and farmhouse range cooker. Hand-painted antique tiles add to the charm and style of this practical cook’s kitchen.
Relaxing
The villa has extensive terraces, a roof deck, and vine-covered pergolas that welcome shade or sun. The huge expanse of lawn is perfect for cricket or croquet; equipment is included with your rental. The gently flowing river (gated off for safety) is a perfect setting for a rural wedding, or for stretching your legs.
A large, heated pool is located in the rear garden. Framed by tall palms, eucalyptus trees, and lush greenery, the pool measures 12 metres (40 feet) in length and offers beautiful mountain views. Sun-loungers sit on the pool terrace.
Sleeping
Bedroom 1: Spacious ground-floor master with open fireplace, TV, reading corner, and doors out to the poolside terrace. Large en-suite terracotta bathroom with twin sinks, bath, and separate shower cubicle.
Bedroom 2: The ‘Green Bedroom,’ this top-level suite functions as a second master. Patio doors open onto the rooftop terrace and lovely views. En-suite bathroom with terracotta tiling, bathtub and shower attachment.
Bedroom 3: The ‘Red Bedroom,’ named for its handwoven red tapestry, is smaller than Bedroom 2 but also opens to the roof terrace and beautiful views. The en-suite offers terracotta and hand-painted Spanish tiles, bathroom, and separate shower cubicle.
Bedroom 4: The ‘Yellow Bedroom,’ this lovely room has a wall of Andalucian ceramic plates, a reading chair, and a Juliette balcony with views of the lawned garden. It shares its bathroom with the Attic room.
Bedroom 5: The Attic Room offers two twin beds, but note that it is not suitable for small children, as it has a steep staircase. The room feels nautical-themed, with whitewashed floorboards and a yacht-style window. It shares its bathroom with the Yellow Bedroom.

Casa Alegre is around 10 minutes’ drive north of the beach-side town, San Pedro de Alcantara. Located on a private rural estate owned by British aristocracy and bordering the world-renowned luxury development, La Zagaleta, you are just a few minutes’ drive from the buzz of the Costa del Sol yet surrounded by complete privacy. It’s no wonder that so many of the world’s elite have fallen completely in love with this location and come back each summer to holiday on the estate.

It provides a perfect base for exploring the cultural delights of Malaga province. You're just an hour from the dramatic hilltop town of Ronda which offers boutique shopping, an historical old town, and is surrounded by top-class boutique vineyards and rolling patchwork-quilt landscapes.
Or you can visit Malaga, a hot-spot for art, culture and food. A day trip to Malaga might include boutique shopping, art galleries, museums, historical monuments and regular pit-stops for tapas and a glass of Fino.
This villa enjoys soul-stirring views to the mountains across the valley, and is just 2km (only a 25-minute stroll if you fancy a walk) from the village of Benahavis with its shops and restaurants. It's just 13km to the lovely beach-front town of San Pedro de Alcantara next to Puerto Banus with its family-friendly boulevard park and beach-front paseo, a very easy car ride for a family day out or evening meal and stroll on the promenade.
