Welcome to Villa Estrelizia

Sitting on a quiet cul-de-sac in the rolling hills of Cerro Gordo nature reserve, Villa Estrelizia is a stylish property adhering to a cubic, modern design. Split across two levels, it is accessed at street level via two flights of steps, which lead down into a contemporary open-plan living space and dining room.

The villa’s five bedrooms feed off this central space in a series of interconnecting corridors. The three bedrooms located closest to the living room benefit from sea views and an abundance of natural light thanks to their floor-to-ceiling windows, which open out onto charming, shaded terraces with tables and chairs – ideal for an intimate breakfast for two.

In the sitting room, an entire wall of glass doors can be rolled back to grant access to the large, ground-floor terrace beyond. This gives way to tropical gardens and a private pool, overlooked by a pretty, vine-coiled pergola with family dining table.

A large roof terrace extends across the top floor of the property; angled towards a far-reaching vista of silvery-blue sea and tree-ridged hilltops, all spread out beneath a wide swathe of sky.

From this privileged vantage point, it’s easy to say where the sweeping, u-shaped bay of La Herradura – which means horseshoe in Spanish – derives its name.

The stylish roof terrace is an idyllic spot to catch the sunset with a cocktail at the open-air bar or enjoy a glass of chilled champagne in the heated Jacuzzi while the stars come out in the skies above.

A family BOLTHOLE

Villa Estrelizia is a property that lends itself to laid-back family holidays and provides the ideal space for multi-generational getaways.

The layout of the villa is perfectly set-up for families with over toddler age children. The open-plan design of the living room and lounge means there is plenty of space to spread out, while the large gardens and elevated pergola enable parents to enjoy some privacy while keeping an eye on kids at play.

The smaller bedrooms to the back of the property are perfectly proportioned for children and offer twin beds and a shared bathroom. The principal suite – which benefits from the inclusion of a comfortable double sofa bed – can be accessed from these rooms via a shared internal courtyard, allowing families to move easily between their respective sleeping quarters.

All this teamed with expansive tropical gardens, a rooftop Jacuzzi and fabulous private pool make Villa Estrelizia the perfect backdrop for a great break in the sunshine.

the family collection

With its large garden and private swimming pool, Villa Estrelizia is the perfect place to bring the family for a relaxing holiday in the sun.

This stylish contemporary villa also benefits from a twin and single room ideal for kids, plus a double sofa-bed in the large principal suite.

Villa Estrelizia is located in hills above the laid-back beach town of La Herradura, which has a relaxed, family-friendly vibe and plenty of open-air playgrounds dotted along its gorgeous curved bay, so children can play while the parents observe from a sun lounger on the sand.

Please note: We want parents to have a relaxing time on holiday so we’d like to be perfectly clear that Villa Estrelizia is wonderful for children over toddler age. Parents with younger children would have to be extra vigilent as the garden is terraced and there’s no fencing when it changes level, there is no pool fencing and the roof terrace railings aren’t toddler proof.

Enjoy the local area

Sandwiched between the Costa del Sol and Costa del Almeria, Costa Tropical is Granada province’s coast. Different in feel to its neighbours, it has a rugged coastline, with broad coves, jutting rocks and sandy pebble beaches.

Named after its climate, the area is famed for its tropical fruit. With mango and avocado groves carpeting hillsides and villages. This stretch of coastline has a relaxed vibe, in keeping with Granada’s sense of romance. La Herradura is named for the bay’s horseshoe shape and is famed for its sheltered beach and crystal clear waters, it’s a beautiful but less visited slice of Spain’s south coast.

It’s approximately 30 minutes’ walk to several restaurants on the beach ‘Playa de la Herradura’, and a little further to a small but picturesque Marina for jetski and yacht charter in the other direction.

This is hidden Spain – from lesser-known white villages perched on a rock (like Salobreña) to unspoilt beaches( Playa Cañuelo), to incredible diving, nearby historical cities and skiing during the winter. There are plenty of things for you to see and do in the area and within easy reach. The diving from La Herradura is also very good indeed. But if scuba diving isn’t your thing, the snorkelling is just as good. Hire a yacht or boat is a must to discover this coastline properly. A lot of the best beaches on the Costa Tropical can only be accessed by boat or kayak. The coastal road is a Mecca for cyclists, the region is great for road and mountain biking with routes (and e-bikes!) to suit all abilities.

A trip isn’t complete without a visit to the Alhambra Palace in the city of Granada. When you’re done at this must-see sight, head to the Moorish Albayzín district and watch the breathtaking sunset over the honey-coloured fort before hitting the city for tapas.
