Sofas are squashy and inviting, designed for sinking into with a book. Rugs underfoot are plush and beds come piled with pillows and made up with silky cotton sheets. A Serene Outdoor Setting
Outdoors, Villa Abie appeals to every sense. Lavender, lemon trees and freshly cut grass scent the warm air, while sunlight dapples the pool and filters through the branches of the towering pine tree beside the terrace. Sounds drift softly: birds in the treetops, the breeze moving through leaves and the faint hum of an aeroplane tracing white lines above La Concha mountain.

Villa Abie’s living room forms a key component of its recent reformation and has been finished to an exceptional standard with large TV and music system.
Furniture – which includes a family sized sofa and armchairs – is high quality and proportioned to suit the room, offering balance without overwhelming the space.
A neutral palette anchors the design, complemented by layered fabrics and textures including wall coverings, ikat prints and soft tonal accents.
Villa Abie’s open layout joins its kitchen with the dining and living room, creating a practical floorspace ideal for family living.
The kitchen’s design is modern and understated, with marble countertops and high-quality Miele and Siemens appliances, including an induction hob, hot water tap and water purifier.
The kitchen is also equipped with a Vitamix blender and juicer. Coffee lovers are well catered for with a choice between a Delonghi bean-to-cup machine, smaller Nespresso unit and a Miele integrated coffee maker.
A circular six-seater dining table sits beside the sliding doors that open directly onto the pool terrace, offering a sunny spot for family breakfast. Outside, an eight-seater wooden table with wicker chairs overlooks the pool, alongside an outdoor kitchen with a GasTBS grill, electric hotplate, sink and additional wine cooler.
Villa Abie offers a range of spaces designed for downtime. Mornings might begin with a quiet swim in the infinity pool as the sun rises over the treetops, followed by an unhurried breakfast on the terrace with views towards La Concha.
Meanwhile, the gym annexe in the lower garden caters for those wishing to maintain their fitness. For further relaxation, the massage table in the principal suite can be relocated to the terrace for open-air treatments, followed by a poolside siesta on one of the loungers in the shade.
Principal Bedroom 1: Occupying the entire top floor, the principal suite is accessed through a walk-through dressing room that leads into a generous seating area with Emperor bed (200cm x 200cm). Floor-to-ceiling glass open to a large sea-facing terrace with panoramic views spanning east to west, taking in the gardens, pool, mountains and coastline.

What impressed me most about Villa Abie is how perfectly it combines style and comfort. So many second homes, especially at the luxury end of the market, can feel a little too curated: where impeccable design tips into sterility. For me, the real talent lies in finding the balance. You want top-grade fixtures and fittings, clean-lined architecture and impeccable finishes, but you also want the warmth and character that makes a house feel like a home. It is not easy to achieve, yet Villa Abie gets it exactly right. It is a contemporary refurbishment that has not lost its soul, a beautiful space that still feels lived in and welcoming.
The aesthetic is everything I look for in a home. Gorgeous fabrics, comfortable seating, plenty of natural light and a thoughtful blend of textures. Nothing feels sterile, and everything is undeniably chic. It is the little touches that bring the space alive. A colourful vase, an ikat cushion positioned with care, a sunny corner that you can just picture becoming your morning coffee spot.
The Mediterranean mood is present everywhere, from the pared back planting to the smooth white walkway that leads to the front door, lined with planters of olive trees and herbs. It is the rare kind of home that feels both beautifully designed and genuinely comfortable, I was genuinely smitten by the time I left!
