Welcome to Casa La Joya

An Original MANOR HOUSE

Tucked away down a quiet street in one of Granada’s picturesque white villages, Casa la Joya could be easily overlooked from the outside. A simple, carved wooden door in an unassuming brick wall is all that marks the entrance to this handsome 19th-century manor house.

Despite its understated exterior, once guests step inside this magical property the meaning of its name – joya means “gem” in Spanish – will become clear. The passion project of an esteemed interior designer, there is not one corner of Casa la Joya that has not been blessed with its owner’s exquisite good taste.

Beyond the large entrance hall visitors will be greeted by the sight of a traditional Andalucian courtyard known as a corrala. An array of seating areas encircle an ornamental stone fountain at the centre – including velvet armchairs, writing desks and coffee tables. An overhead skylight allows sunlight to dapple through onto the original stone floors and pool around the bases of the numerous potted palms, creating a sun-filled space where guests can gather to enjoy a pre-dinner drink or a morning coffee.

Opening off the patio is a network of rooms, including a luxurious first-floor suite, a sunny tea-room, a modern kitchen and a large breakfast room with street views and a family-sized table. Upstairs, bedrooms unfold along a maze of corridors and passageways. High ceilings and french windows provide a sense of airiness and space, and depending on the side of the house the bedrooms are located on, either a view of the sleepy town square or the pretty walled garden can be enjoyed.

Almost every corner at Casa la Joya contains something beautiful to behold: be it a stylishly upholstered chair, a statement chandelier or an artfully distressed antique wardrobe. Each piece is carefully chosen to complement the overall aesthetic of the house, making Casa la Joya a dream property for anyone with an appreciation for interior design.

eLEGANT INSIDE AND OUT

The effortless charm of Casa la Joya extends further than its luxurious bespoke interiors. French windows located at the far end of the ground floor open onto a large, shaded sun terrace coiled with vines, where a rustic table creates an idyllic spot for an al-fresco breakfast or a candlelit dinner.

Beyond the patio, a mature walled garden unfolds, planted with 100-year-old Persimmon and Loquat trees, which provide much-needed shade during the balmy summer months. A beautiful swimming pool occupies the far corner of the garden, surrounded by sun loungers designed to face the enchanting view of mountains and open sky.

Should guests wish to explore the surrounding area, a short stroll up the street outside leads to a sleepy town square dominated by a beautiful, honey-bricked church that glows golden at dusk when caught by the last of the sun’s rays.

The town itself is the epitome of laid-back Andalucian living, with its narrow streets, white houses and flower-filled balconies. The village is one in a network of small towns that make up the Lecrin Valley in Granada, famed for its orchard covered landscapes and glittering blue reservoirs.

The Lecrin Valley offers the best of both worlds: stunning countryside and tranquillity, only a 30-minute drive from the bustling streets of Granada city centre, and 60 minutes from the snow-carpeted slopes of the Sierra Nevada.

When it comes to communal dining, Casa la Joya offers a large breakfast room with street views, complete with a long, 10-seater table. Coffee making facilities are provided in the form of two Nespresso machines, and there is a large projector screen at the head of the table – making it the ideal spot for breakfast meetings or working lunches.

Relaxation comes as standard in Casal la Joya’s exquisitely decorated bedrooms with their comfortable beds and high-quality sheets.
