Hollywood Actress Madeleine Carroll was instantly captivated by this whitewashed estate nestled in the hills above Marbella. She fell in love with Andalucia, as did the villa’s subsequent owner, Grammy Award-winning guitarist Glenn Tipton.
Love and care have seen this stately country home transformed into fabulous villa reminiscent of a private castle, full of airy spaces, six individually designed bedrooms and a separate casita for the caretakers.
The atmosphere inside is classically stylish, yet warm and welcoming. Old antiques are preserved as a nod to the villa’s past, such as the antique typewriter that one can imagine being used to tap out old movie scripts in days gone by.
It’s hard to draw your eyes away from the magnificent panoramic views that illuminate almost every space with tall French doors and windows.
The living area, library and classic games corner are finished with sumptuous furnishings, perfect for quiet summer afternoons or jovial winter evenings around a huge roaring fire.
A balcony looks down over the gothic style dining space, with its antique stone fireplace, a chandelier and bespoke dining table with seating for 12.
The Andalucian style kitchen is spacious and fully equipped for preparation of delicious meals that can be taken indoors or out, and staff can be called upon to assist with the service of light snacks, laying the BBQ or serving breakfast on the terrace.

True to the style of Al-Andaluz, this villa is centred around a cool Moorish-style inner patio with dwarf orange trees and a fountain. Gentle running water takes inspiration from the Alhambra in Granada, offering a space for tranquil contemplation.
The patio gives access into the main living areas of the villa, and also leads to the upper level where all bedrooms can be reached by an internal balcony that gives the air of a small private castle.
You can relax in complete privacy on the large al fresco terrace, where you can enjoy a delicious BBQ for lunch before an afternoon snooze on the circular daybed overlooking the river valley below.
The gardens are ripe for exploring; a little path leads to a secret garden planted years ago by Madeleine Carroll. Here, an old millstone was used by the actress to enjoy her picnics in the Andalucian outdoors.
The private pool is tiled in blue mosaic with two leaping dolphins, and can be reached down a sweeping stone staircase on the lower level of the garden.
The views from the pool are simply breathtaking, embracing the mountain scenery with only birdsong breaking the peace. It is clear to see why the owners of this fabulous villa fell so in love with this place, and we hope you do too.
The spacious main living room is the first room you enter, leading through to the reading lounge and games area finished with floor-ceiling panoramic windows. It has 3 large sofas and an open fireplace, TV with DVD and UK channels.
The indoor kitchen is well equipped with Bosch and Daewoo, and also has a small breakfast nook. The outdoor adjoining dining terrace is also a fabulous spot to take breakfast al-fresco, and we can provide a member of staff or a professional chef to whip you up a feast or serve a light snack (POA).
There is a choice of outdoor dining areas, the breakfast terrace off the kitchen seating up to 6, and a further terrace by the reading lounge seating 12+ which also has a BBQ.
This villa has extensive terraces and peaceful corners of the garden for relaxing in the sunshine or shade.
The pool is on a lower level of the garden and is narrow but long, and offers poolside seating with panoramic views to the mountains. A shady pergola is an ideal spot for evening cocktails, or for a peaceful afternoon, the interior Moroccan patio is a welcoming retreat.

Some bedrooms have space for an additional bed for a child or a cot, please ask us for details. Bedrooms 4, 5, and 6 can be closed off for one complete family.

The villa rental includes daily light housekeeping (6 days a week) as part of their normal duties.
In addition, the staff live on site ready to assist with anything else you need from laundry and ironing, after-meal clean up, or helping to prepare and serve light meals and clearing away afterwards. Additional staff hours can be booked and paid for locally*.

I just love the peace and serenity at this villa, I can see why it might be the venue of choice for Rock Stars and ex-Prime Ministers looking for a quiet getaway, away from prying eyes! Indeed, the staff have welcomed many a VIP to spend some much-deserved family time here.
It is however surprisingly close to the upmarket attractions of Puerto Banus, just 15 minutes drive away, so you have all of that on your doorstep but still get to come home to a private oasis where you can enjoy a complete escape from every day life.

We have had the most amazing holiday in your villa. Not only did it turn out better than I thought by way of furnishings, but space of rooms, the different quiet spots you could go to, the glorious pool with its spectacular vista.
